Working with Google Wave

Filed under: Google, open source — admin @ 3:29 am

Its been a couple of week since i actually started working with google wave . Since google has bragged about it being a developer’s version I could see why they have stated .

Here are some of my experience using it for the last 14 days.

Google wave is   slow

When i want to write any reply to user’s message it take a while before the text box appears .

The status bar doesn’t ever show the status as done. It gives the user a wrong impression that something will show up as its taking time to load up.

Sometimes when i reply any user i wonder the message is sent as everything looks static.

It logged me out many time for no reasons.

How useful Google wave is ?

Well as its meant for online collaboration it servers the primary purpose .

I no longer need to save the chat conversation and it keep the track of everything.

Did Google Wave helped my work to be smoother?

To be honest it takes a while before practically I would be confident on this application. Since I am not using this replacing my existing medium immediately its difficult to say it actually helped me to make my work smoother.

Open Source Versus Best Spoke Web Application

Filed under: open source — admin @ 3:32 pm

We are in an era where the market place is very competitive and fast growing. The requirements from the website owners  these days are specific and they are more educated on what they actually want unlike few years back. Website owners can now say I want this website to do this and I have this budget which is SMALL . They approach us by saying I want a site with a CMS ( Content Management System) or they could be even specific by saying I want Drupal or Joomla for my website as a backend .

Now as a web development company what I would  look for is an alternative  solution which is cheaper faster and which can be easily customized. I wont be looking to do things which would take time and still may not produce the same result that the client want.  I would then go for an open source which is already available . I do what is required to be done within the stated time and within the SMALL budget given by the client .

It may be an advantage to a business that we don’t have to spent hours doing the same thing which is already been done.  Having said that it may to some extent derail the creativity of a web developer. I wonder if someday we wont have anything to do except we would be assembling all the web applications. And website owners will look for open source application assembler.
